Alotta Brownies is looking to gain some national exposure.
The Fremont bakery will be the focus of a film crew during the first week in June as part of a competition for the "Best of" series.
The Destination Guide picked 10 businesses within the vicinity of Omaha for the Best of Omaha. Alotta Brownies, chosen as best bakery, will be up against other places like Dundee Dell (Best Pub), Greenbelly (the Greenest Restaurant) and Charlie's on the Lake (Best Waterfront Dining) in Omaha.
The film crew will shoot video of the store, interview owner Michelle Kaiser and her staff and any customers who may be in the store.
"They want to have the store full of people," Kaiser said.
Once the video is complete, it will be posted to YouTube. The video with the most views wins Best of Omaha. If a video reaches 10,000 views, then that company has a shot at Best in the Country.
If the bakery wins Best of Omaha, it will receive commercials on The Travel Channel. If it wins Best in the Country, it will be featured on a show on the Lifetime Network.
Kaiser said the exposure will not only help her business, but others in Fremont as well.
It's not just for me. It's for everybody. Everybody wins," Kaiser said. "If (Country Traditions) is busy over there, I win. When I'm busy, everybody is winning when someone gets some type of national publicity in any form."
In the meantime, the bakery already is receiving recognition across the state.
GROW Nebraska recently opened a store at Eppley Airfield in Omaha and asked Kaiser to include items from her business.
Airport visitors will be able to find Alotta Brownies apparel, brownies and coconut macaroons. Kaiser said she hopes to get the merchandise into the store before the Berkshire Hathaway shareholders meeting this weekend.
Kaiser said she plans to get merchandise into GROW Nebraska's other locations this summer. GROW Nebraska, which features products made in Nebraska, has stores in Kearney, Grand Island and Lincoln.
